Mercury vs Liberty predictions
When Phoenix Mercury steps onto the court at Barclays Center, all eyes will likely be on shooting guard Kahleah Copper. She’s been lighting up the scoreboard with an impressive 25.5 points per game. Given her explosive scoring capability, there's a good chance she’ll eclipse this average, especially if she manages to shake off any tight defense from New York. Also in the spotlight will be Natasha Cloud, whose leadership and knack for distributing the ball has her averaging 7.8 assists per game. It wouldn’t be surprising to see her dictating play and possibly pushing those assist numbers even higher.
On the flipside, New York Liberty will lean heavily on Breanna Stewart, who's not only a powerhouse scorer averaging 19.5 points per game but also a dominant force on the boards with 9.2 rebounds per game. Her ability to impact the game on both ends of the court could be a critical factor. Then there's Courtney Vandersloot, whose vision and passing skills have her chalk up 5.5 assists per game. If she can create open looks for her teammates and perhaps chip in with a few extra points herself, it could be a game-changer.
Considering the strength of the New York Liberty at home and their current season momentum, they are poised to capitalize on their advantages. With Stewart leading from the front and Vandersloot orchestrating the offense, Liberty should have the edge over Mercury, who, despite the threat posed by Copper and Cloud, might struggle to cope away from home. It's shaping up to be a thrilling encounter, but my nod goes to New York to secure a victory in what promises to be an enthralling match-up.
